Artist Statement
For as long as I can remember, and still now I feel most inspired to be creative through the things I encounter within my life everyday, such as nature, architecture, historical aesthetics, things I read, and so on. These inspire me to begin to consider my connections and reactions towards the things which intrigue me. From this I derive concepts addressing, processing and reflecting upon these thoughts through the creation of my work.
I find myself frequently gravitating amidst depicting realistic and highly detailed pieces, with landscapes and nature being a compelling subject matter fitting my life at the moment, whilst investigating the connections they have with the passage of time. For example, my painting Apparition focuses on tangible and intangible landscapes blurring the lines between the past and present.
Within my art, whether it be a finished oil painting or a small drawing I always compose it to relay either a personal narrative or a strong emotion in relation to an experience from my life, without this aspect I feel my work would be incomplete to me no matter how much it achieves visually.
